Loft disasters
On Sunday I went into the loft to finish fixing the new light into the bathroom, and discovered that the water tank in the loft was leaning precariously to one side! This was due ot the fact that the wooden chipboard platform that the tank sits on had collapsed and if it wasnt for the rafters, the tank would have fallen over and prob would have flooded the spare room! So, after a quick fone-a-diy-friend, I had to turn the water off, drain the tank, construct an extra wooden support for the tank, and replace hte broken chipboard wiht a new one I conveniently found in the loft...then I could turn the water back on and refill the tap.
Everything worked well, I phoned the friend to update, phoned someone else to chat, watched a bit of tv, heard a dripping noise and realised that the tank was leaking! Ok so it wasnt actually the tank itself, but hte mains water pipe that feed the tank; it seems I might have man-handled it a bit much, causing the poorly soldered joint to break and leaking water all into the loft insulation and down into the spare room! So after turning the water off again, and a big bit of a cleanup, I figured Id need to replace the leaking elbow joint wiht a new compression joint. So thats what I did on Monday, using the good ol' PTFE tape & olives to seal it all in, tested it, tightened it some more, and hey presto, no more leaks!
